The procedures for donating a car are quite simple. First you must have an old car that you are no longer need. Secondly you must be prepared to donate it. Finally there are some questions you need to ask before attempting to donate the vehicle.
Is the car in good condition? The last thing you want to occur is give a decaying car to a charity the helps people in need. They may be angry if it falls apart mid trip. You also do not want to donate a vehicle if it needs extensive maintenance, or expensive repairs.
Who needs the unwanted car the most? This isn't a simple question to answer to yourself, but essential if you want your donation to be of most benefit. Why should I even bother? Because there are a lot of people who could use a good car. Besides, if you have one you no longer use, its just taking up space.
Now ask yourself this. I only have one car so who do I give it to? Lots of disadvantaged people may need one badly but you only have one to give. Well, for starters you have outreach programs, churches, and the groups that tackle global issues.
If none of these interest you, then find a university student who needs one. They don't have much money and can't afford a vehicle by themselves. Ask yourself if any neighbors are in need of a car. Also see if there's a homeless person who needs a break to relocate and get back on their feet. Finally you could ask inside your own family.
Many cities and charity organizations will either pay cash for donated cars, or will give donors a tax credit. This is to encourage the type of people who don't believe in giving to those less fortunate. For others there is the good feeling they get from having done something to help the disadvantaged - as well as the tax credit.
If by some chance giving out of the milk of human kindness doesn't motivate you, there are rewards. Some charities will give you cash. Government programs might either give you cash, or a tax credit. However giving out of the goodness of your heart and not looking for, or taking any reward for the donation can make you feel good.
The last option to consider is your hometown. Donating a vehicle to them can save them a lot of money. It also gives the donor a sense of giving back to your community. Your neighbors will like you better if you appear to love your community.
Who you donate the vehicle to is totally up to you, but make sure that you check the condition of the vehicle before you donate it. You definitely don't want to donate a vehicle that turns out to be a lemon.
