Condo Living - What You Need To Know
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
In some areas, the prices of condos are going up and go down in other areas but the one sure thing is that condos are here to stay! There are quite several reasons for the popularity of condo living and by the looks of it, it's the way of the future.
One is obviously a reflection on our society - many of us just feel safer living in a close community that offers protection of some sort. Don't forget the fact that a lot of condo owners live up higher than ground level and burglaries are known to usually happen in first floor condos.
Also being built as gated communities these days is a higher proportion of condos which is why condos offer much more security unlike a family dwelling. Underground parking or 24 hour security patrols are also being offered by many condos.
Security is a big factor for all of us, but especially older people who may feel frail. With the baby boomers reaching retirement age, the largest ever population of pensioners will be looking for secure housing.
We want to have more peace and do fewer chores as age creeps upon us. Another reason why a condo is so appealing as most condo maintenance is looked after by the management. It seems so appealing to be able to walk through lawns that are watered, fed, and cut by someone else as well as swimming in a pool that is always at the perfect Ph balance.
It is also easy to find friends in the unit and to visit without too much effort which is yet another reason why members of the retirement population may like condos. Many condos also have a balcony, which is about enough outdoors once your back does not let you do the gardening anymore!
A condo block that has large balconies in which they can grow vegetables in pots is what real gardening buffs can search for. You need to make sure that you are allowed to grow vegetation on your balconies since this 'permission' thing may be something unfamiliar to those who are moving from single family dwellings.
Also, condos always have house rules. They are not there to hinder but rather to protect but all of them are individually designed. The rules from one condo unit to another can vary a lot. Checking the rules before you make your decision to buy would be an extremely important step.
If you are planning to make a change, then there will be no conflict in your life if you ever find a condo that has the type of rules that would fit into your normal lifestyle pattern.
