Learning About Pitching Technique is Vital

If you are a pitcher, one of the most important things for you to do is to become a student of the game. Study the greatest pitchers that have ever played the game. Study the greatest hitters so that you will be able to identify any weaknesses they have. Learn which pitches are the best pitches to throw in any given situation. The best pitchers in the game just dont have a great understanding of pitching, but they understand the game in its entirety. Here are just a few pitching tips for you to take to the mound this year.
You have to understand that all of your momentum has to go in one direction, and one direction only; toward home plate. If your head is moving up and down or side to side you have a problem with your balance. This complicates pitching and you should simplify your approach and get down to the basics of throwing mechanics. Your momentum needs to continue to go toward home plate until release of the baseball.
The next thing you need to do is get your butt out there. What I mean is you have to create a lot of momentum to foot strike. Without momentum you will not be throwing the baseball very hard. There is the right kind of momentum when throwing the ball and the wrong kind of momentum. The momentum going toward home plate is the right momentum. If you are slow to foot strike you will end up using your arm to find the velocity and you will be sorely disappointed as it wont be there.
Part of finding the right kind of momentum is ensuring that you have a good stride. Your stride length should be 100% of your height or, in other words, as long as you are tall. If you have a short stride you will have to make up for velocity somewhere and your arm ends up taking a beating that way. Make sure you are striding as far as you can while you maintain correct balance and throwing techniques in your delivery.
Another quick pitching tip is not to listen to any pitching instructor that tells you, you need to change your arm slot. Most pitchers throw three-quarter arm slot, while most instructors who see somebody throw that way will tell the pitcher they need to throw at a ninety degree angle. This technique or advice is absolutely wrong and it ruins careers.
I hope you have learned something valuable today that you can immediately start using on the mound. Remember, always study the game of Baseball and you will be light years ahead of your competition.
