An enormous topic now days is the topic of industry and the environment. Ways to control the climate is a major concern. Leading firms in Britain have proposed a letter asking for urgent, long-term policies to fight against changes in climate.
Heads in government are holding off on making any steps because they are not certain of what other protocols may be put into effect in the years ahead. Large companies like BP, Shell, and HSBC Bank have signed off on the letter sent to the prime minister. These companies make up 400 and 500 billion dollars but, apparently that isn't enough to give them a say in the matter.
Because of the fear of hurting business, the governments have decided not ready to get get the ball rolling to cut CO2 emissions. It would appear that the governments have set a goal to cut emissions by sixty percent by the year 2050. Leaders in business claim that they are very heavily concerned about climate changes. The leaders support the governments goals to cut emissions by 2050.
The Confederation of British Industry is battling against the cuts for the fear that they could be bad for business. The Department of Trade Industry is behind CBI one hundred percent. In the letter from business leaders, it says that cutting emissions by sixty percent and not hurting the industry is doable.
They are stressing that cutting these emissions may only reduce business by a small two percent by 2050. They have also stated that by making these cuts, they could possibly even boost their profits. The idea that could possibly boost profits would use newly developed technology designed to capture emissions.
The new technology will catch the CO2 before it enters the air. Once captured, it will then be released into the layer of sandstone inside the earth. Scientists say that the CO2 will sit inside of the sandstone and remain harmless because of the porousness of the sandstone.
There are a few different research projects under way to reduce and eliminate emissions completely. Research on cars that will not emit any emissions is being done at this time. They are expecting to complete and even put these cars on the market by the year 2040.
Other alternatives are currently being explored to completely eliminate CO2 emissions. Scientists are hoping that they can get funding from the government to help conduct research in hopes to save the planet before it is too late. Hopefully we move in the direction of not having industry and environment as a common topic of conversation ever again.
