The Immortals of Meluha is one of the biggest publishing success stories of the year 2010. Written by the Indian author, Amish, this book has gone on to break all records and has been on the best-seller list since its release. The Immortals of Meluha is set in the 18th century in the imaginary land of Meluha and with its unique storyline and plot, has managed to cast a spell over its readers.
This country is home to the proud and might Suryavanshi clan. This clan worships Lord Rama and follow his teachings and pride themselves on being the role model society for everyone to follow and emulate. They also are free of illl and disease, thanks to a drink that gives them the gift of immortality.
The land of Meluha, however, is not all that perfect also. The Meluhan people are always on the brink of war with their neighbours from the land of Swadeep, called the Chandravanshis. These two clans are exactly opposite to each other in every aspect possible. The Swadeepans love to live in chaos where nothing is set by rules while the Meluhans hate this.
Another problem that is ailing Meluha is that the sinister and dangerous Naga warriors from the South are constantly carrying out terrorist ativities in various parts of Meluha. The Nagas escape soon after carrying out such acts and the Meluhan people have no answer to their attacks.
It is here that the readers are introduced to the main character in the book, a nomadic warrior named Shiva. Shiva has escaped to Meluha along with his entire village from the mountains of Tibet. What he doesn't know is the fact that he is destined to be the person responsible for bringing peace to Meluha.
With its unique plot and blending of history with mythology, Amish manages to create a book that leaves the readers captivated. Immortals of Meluha is the first part in the Shiva Trilogy and the second part, The Secret of the Nagas has also just been released. This book is a must read for all those who love fantasy and fiction.
