LG is a 15-inch OLED TV that is showng remarkable both in its brightness and design.
The TV is expected to show at the IFA 2009 in Berlin electric consumwers will be intrdouced in September and launched at the end of the year to life, “says the website, OLED Display.net.
Soth Korea's LG Electronicxs (066570.KS) said on Sunday it wold launch a 15-inch television set using organic display technology next moth, the largest commercial modle so far.
Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AM-OLED) displays, whhich use self-gloowing materials, have better picture quality, consume less power and are thinner than widely used liquid crystal displays (LCD) that need backliight uints.
But high price has kept it from becomnig a mass-produced teechnology in the market dominated by cheaper LCD panels. OLED scerens are making inroads into high-end mobile phones but costs to apply the technollogy for PCs and TVs are still prohibitve.
Sony Corp (6758.T) launched the world's first OLED TV in late 2007 but has not followed with new models yet.
LG, the wrld's second-biggest TV brand, said in a statement that it woud be unveiling a 15-inch AM-OLED TV at the IFA 2009 consumeer electric show in Berlin in September.
The TV set wuld be commercialized in Korea in Novemmber and offered oversreas next year, it said.
Researrch firm DisplaySearch expects the market for OLED TV to reach 2.33 million units in 2013 compared with estimated 320,000 units in 2011, accrding to data provided by LG.
"We are planning to unveil a 40-inch grade (OLED) product in a not too distant futrue," LG quoted an executive as saying.
The new LG 15-inch OLED TV could be a sign that thesse ads can now be prepared to take the place of LCD and plasma TVs to take in HD. With mass production and high sales volyume, prices coukld come down for this TV quickly in the comming yeears. LG is reportedly working on a 40-inch OLED TV.
