Gifts And DIY Hampers
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Planning your Christmas gifts ahead is a good way to avoid stress and last minute panic buying in the height of the shopping rush. By shopping in the early season, it is easy to create a good Christmas list full of thoughtful stocking fillers at a cheaper price.
Often having a time restriction forced upon you can work in your favour as the mind is focussed and shopping is done more efficiently. However this normally only applies to certain types of gifts such as stocking fillers and less appropriate for romantic gifts.
A nice technique to personalise a gift for Christmas or indeed a birthday or anniversary would be to consider creating a basket or hamper of assorted items specific to their likes. This could be within a hamper, a gift basket or perhaps a large stock pot. Items within the basket don't have to all be thoughtful and special but simply useful.
This technique can be used very well for children either individually or in a small group. As we know children at certain ages are not concerned with how much their gift cost, simple crayons in a box of goodies could be their favourite toy. As with a group a goodie bag of assorted toys
Why not restrain yourself from buying a advertised TV toy but invest in a cheap toy that would provide an activity for the child. Some simple yarn, craft sticks, glue sticks and felt could keep the cost down otherwise a paint set, for finger paintings etc. This would be something the child could share in their playtime and would definitely inspire creativity.
The gift collection technique can be applied in many situations where family members would find it useful. Such as a 'going away to university' pack to include things as batteries, torch - which could all be presented in a laundry basket.
Of course a DIY gift basket does not have to come in a wicker/straw basket, it can come in any form or large object. As suggested a large stock pan for a cooking enthusiast, a laundry bag for a new student leaving home. Other examples could be a kitbag for a sports lover, a school bag for a child's first day at school, even a wheel barrow with a bow round it for a gardening enthusiast.
Ideally your gift would be remembered for its originality but if it isn't then you haven't spent a great deal on any one item making the whole gift a cost effective decision.
