Women tend to be crazy about make up, even if they do not find any men to admire the changes made by their makeup. Either to woo a guy or just to increase confidence in their own selves, women use make up to add to their outer beauty. Today, as women are less bound by restrictions and are working along men in every field, looking good in public has become an essential responsibility. For this reason, they flood towards any place they can get some pretty colors for themselves, be it the promotional displays at the super mart, the sweepstakes entry box, a yard sale or the flea market.
A woman's wish to look good and adorn herself is not something that emerged with current fashion and trend. It is in actual a natural desire that has been around since the prehistoric times. The most ancient proof of the application of cosmetics comes from the earliest Egyptian civilization, which is the nation behind the development of cosmetic kits. Make up at that time were used by male and female alike. This was mainly to satisfy the gods and deities. The Idea of beauty hasn't changed since those times, as even in those times the Egyptians adored dark big eyes and bright lips. The Greeks learned the application of colors and makeup from the Egyptians yet, makeup in that era had no religious meaning or usage. Yet, in few towns, it has been found that hair dyes was used to identify the social standing of a particular lady. Hair dyes and hand made wigs were used for this purpose.
As early as the Romans adapted the use of cosmetics to beautify eyes, lips and skin, it became common there too.' A lady without paint is like food without salt' became one of the popular Roman sayings at the time. Later, the tradition of painting eyes and lips travelled on to Persia and became a norm there as well.
In old China, women found ways to color their nails with different ingredients like as Gum Arabia and egg which soon became a symbol for identifying the class of a woman. The elites wore gold, red or silver, while the lower class was prohibited from bright colors. The Japanese had their own different method of make up. A geisha, once considered the style and beauty icon, used to apply lip color made out of safflower seed paste. Since whyt faces were always considered pretty in ancient times, people used to whiten their faces with rice flour. Rouge was used to contour features.
By medieval times, churches across Europe forbade the use of make-up because it was a devilish activity. However, later on it became essential to have paler skin to be considered in the elite crowd. Queen Elizabeth used applied lead to cover her face. This dangerous act continued for a long time. Finally in the 20th century, theater actors and actresses used a huge quantity of cosmetics to appear beautiful on stage. Thus, led many makeup artists from Hollywood to introduce their own cosmetic line like as Max factor and Elizabeth Arden. Currently, there are uncountable brands, and people use them every now and then in different styles.
