Most of us know that it is very important to set and achieve goals in our life but not many know how to set goals effectively. Knowing how to set goals effectively is the first step to achieving goals that really matter in your life.

It is very important not to fall into the trap of setting goals that are unattainable as this can quickly discourage and disappoint us. Many people give up half way because they set goals that are not attainable or out of reach.

Another very crucial thing that we want to mention right off the bat is TAKING ACTION because this is what most people fail to do. You can have the best goal-setting methodology in place, but if you don't take action to implement your goals, you won't achieve anything!

With the right strategies, you can set goals that really matter to you and meet them more easily than you ever imagined.

Another goal-setting mistake you should avoid is NOT to set your goals based on other people expectations. You should focus on what really matter to you and set goals based on your own expectations rather than your friends or families expectations.

So, one great technique to use when you are setting goals is to stop and ask yourself, "What will bring me long-lasting joy and happiness in life?"

No matter how big or small your goals are, you can achieve them. The key here is to take a consistent action everyday to move you closer to the goals that really matter to you each day.

Without a consistent action and commitment, you are not going to succeed in attaining what you want in life. So, don't be afraid to set your goals and then take the neccessary steps to get them. If something you acheive that can give you a long-term joy and happiness, it is definitely worth doing and achieving.

Here are some more great tips to help you accomplish the goals that really matter to you:

1. Keep your focus. Keep a picture of the life you desire at the forefront of your mind. When frivolous things try to distract you, as they will, remember to make choices according to what's really important to you.

2. Be open to changes. Note that we are living in a dynamic world and will experience changes everyday. DO NOT afraid of changes, enbrace them! Remember that your goals are NOT set in stone so be flexible. If there are better methods you can use to achieve your goals, learn and apply them even if they need you to embrace changes.

3. Be Realistic. Set goals that are within your reach and create a timeline. If you fail to attain the goals that you have set within your timeline, take a look and review your process, your action and your methodology. The key to remember here is... "DO NOT GIVE UP!"

4. Divide your goal into small steps. This is a great method to make your goals achievable or attainable. Do not try to bite off more than you can chew. This is not a new method but it is still very effective when it comes to completing a project. Make sure you use this technique.
