Professional Development: Improve Your Career By Following 7 Easy Steps!
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
1) Find out who you want to impress and as long as there is a good reason for this desire then make them the person to concentrate on. Ask if they will help you and they can either be your life coach or at least work alongside them. By listening to what they have to say but also putting your own slant on the business then you should improve your career.
2) By treating everyone well you will find that when the chips are down there will be people who will go the extra mile for you. No one has become successful by alienating everyone. If things do go wrong don't be put off as it will be a good experience and can show you what to look out for next time.
3) Make sure that you spend time where it is most needed and this will lead to professional growth. That does not mean that you can't go on fashion websites or chat on Facebook but as long as that is secondary to aiming for your goals then that will be alright.
4) Organize your life so as there is time for everything. If you are always running late, not only will it be noticed by those in authority but you will never feel fully confident about what you are doing. If you are always looking at your watch as you know you need to be somewhere else you may find you are cut out of important decision making procedures. Who would want to leave an important decision to someone whose heart and mind did not seem to be in it. Try to get a balance between being early and making sure that people do know you have enough work to do.
5) Prioritise and you will save so much time. Work out what will have the biggest impact on the business and deal with that first. It is no good writing half a dozen reports if you miss a meeting with an important client. Some things can wait others cannot so you need to learn the difference between the two.
6) List everything that you have to do and also things you would like to do. This way you will not miss anything and there is a sense of achievement as you tick things off s they are completed. The time you spend writing things down will be more than regained when things run smoothly.
7) Being friendly with the boss will always improve your career prospects but is can also help you with professional development. Even if they won't push you for promotion you can learn from them and find out how they got where they are.
