Dining Hall Tables: Rectangular Vs. Round Tables
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
The banquet hall or dining hall sets the stage for the celebration at hand. Formal or casual, elegant or themed, there are numerous possibilities. One choice most couples don't often think about is whether to use round or rectangular dining hall tables.
How big or how small the space is might help make that decision. With guests of several hundred or more, it often makes more sense to use round tables as they can be scattered around the room in an eye-pleasing design. Rectangular tables however, can bring a unique feel to a smaller space. Think of the feasts of Kings and Queens. They would have their guests laid out before them, all seated down rectangular tables. Depending on the size and layout of the room, a U shaped arrangement allows the couple to preside over their guests and in turn allows all those attending a spectacular view of the couple.
Circular tables have a couple of benefits. Depending on the centerpiece, everyone at the table should be able to converse with every other person. It is easy to fill out a space with circular tables. The only real downfall is about half the table ends up with their backs to the wedding couple.
Because people will be seated either directly to the side of one another, or immediately across the table, decorations can be fairly tricky, so as not to block anyone's view. An elegant way to do this is with a raised floral vase with glass candleholders. This way, the bouquets tower above the guests' heads. Candles will also offer a romantic renaissance feel to the festivities. Letting soft light filter down.
Another option is to have the head table raised above the other tables, so the wedding party can feel as if they are the center of the universe.
No matter which type of table you choose, table settings and decorations will create an atmosphere designed to delight. Flowers can incorporate a theme color or flower that is special to the bride. Flower petals may be strewn across tables and votive candles or pillar candles will cast a soft glow over the festivities.
Lighting should not be taken lightly. Lighting is one of the biggest factors in setting the tone and the feel for the night. You may want a romantic feel, or an epic feel. Lighting plays a part in all of these.
It doesn't matter how you choose to decorate your dining hall. The only thing that matters is that the design is a reflection of the couple. Circular tables offer easy conversation all around, while rectangular tables can create a more intimate atmosphere and make all those seated feel like they are a special part of the couple's happy day.
