Cheap Receptions For A Memorable Wedding

When you get down to actually planning a wedding reception you may be shocked to see just how pricey an affair it can be. But it can also be the best time of your life, even if you don't enjoy the privileged life of the rich, so don't let a tight budget put a damper on your spirits. While some people feel that it's futile to spend thousands of dollars on the reception there are others who have to contain their wishes so that they don't burn a hole in their pockets. Here are a few cheap reception ideas that may be useful.
A Potluck Reception: Hosting a potluck reception is a good way to make the event easier on the wallets of the host as well as the guests. This kind of party is advantageous not only for you, as you can forget about spending money on the wedding menu, but for your guests as well, as they won't have to spend theirs on your present and they can get to choose what they eat since they are going to bring all the food. You don't have to be embarrassed about this theme because it is a truly traditional way to celebrate your nuptials. And your guests are likely to be even more enthusiastic than you are since they won't have to content themselves with the standard limited menu generally used at weddings.
You can also have an appetizer reception at your wedding where the menu consists mainly of finger foods and beverages. You would be surprised at the amount of money you could save on the food. And the effect will be one of sheer elegance and style, not to mention cheaply achieved. And they will be happier still if you also present them with a vegetable platter, fruits and cheese and beverages to wash them down. You may also want to serve chicken hors d'oeuvres. However, refrain from including sea food or beef if you want to keep the costs down.
The Cash Bar: You have to understand that a lot of old traditions and etiquette are being broken or cast aside to make way for the new norms which are more befitting of the time and age we live in. The cash bar is a very low-cost type of reception although it is hardly a favorite with the guests, in fact many times it is just the opposite. With such a reception the greater part of your food budget becomes the alcohol budget, but to avoid expenses altogether, you could set up a cash bar so guests would have to actually pay for their drinks. You may not feel at ease with the idea, and if this is the case, you always have the option of sending your guests tickets for two drinks and if they want more then they'll have to pay for it. This way not only will you spend a lot less on your wedding, but you also show some consideration for your guests.
You may also want to consider curtailing your decoration budget, a few balloons left afloat, some candles, and a single rose placed in a tiny ornate vase will not only look good but will also be significantly affordable.
