The videos depict various devices or items getting dropped into a blender and finding out if they will get destroyed in a blender or not. These videos quickly became viral and blenders actually saw an increase in sales. This shows that social media marketing can be powerful and doesn't always have to be solemn business. Consumers are receptive to things they find funny and interesting and Blendtec managed to find the effective way to stick in the mind of potential customers.

Starbucks- Social media marketing or what online marketing firms uses is usually restricted to the premier social media websites such as Facebook or Twitter, but that doesn't always have to be the case. Starbucks generated their own version of a social media site that quickly became a success for the coffee powerhouse. Starbucks created a website that allowed consumers to submit their idea for a way to make Starbucks better and other customers were then able to vote on which ideas they liked. This let consumers know their voice was being heard and that even a giant company like Starbucks can listen to the little people through the use of social media marketing.

Sun Microsystems- One of the greatest things about social media marketing is that it allows your corporation to be transparent and show consumers that you aren't trying to deceive them. This is exactly how Sun Microsystems uses their blog. They allow both positive and negative feedback and encourage open discussion. They don't try and censor people who dissent with their stances or the direction the brand is taking. Use social media to make consumers trust your company more, not to block their thoughts from ever being seen.

Social media marketing is still in its infancy, but these companies demonstrate that it can be done and it can be done well. Take the time to think about how your corporation wants to approach social media and then devote resources to it. Social media marketing needs time and attention, the benefits will be worth it.
