For centuries, tiles have been used in constructions. They are manufactured from materials like stone, ceramic, glass and others. They can be used for both exterior and interior, to decorate the walls, floors or roofs. Tiles can match any architectural style, either modern or traditional; hence companies are offering a wide variety of types.
Tiles for walls and floors are usually made out of ceramic. But they can also be made of glass, granite or marble. Marble is a rock resulting from recrystallized carbonate minerals, such as dolomite or calcite. The word "marble" derives from Greek which names the rock as "shining stone", or from the verb which means "to sparkle".
Marble is used by many in constructions because of its nice, shiny and glamorous aspect. It is very easy to maintain and fits different types of architecture. Because of the properties they have, the marble tiles are more expensive than the ones from other materials. But, at the price they have, they do give a unique aspect to the construction.
Tiles can also be made out of artificial marble. Marble dust is mixed with cement or synthetic resin. Different techniques are used to give a fake aspect, similar to the natural marble tiles. Of course, natural marble is always better, but that comes with a price. It may have different quality, depending on how it is processed and the quality of the rock used. A marble tile is sawn on both sides and polished on the facing up side, to get a uniform thickness, which is considered to have a beautiful aspect.
There is a very wide variety of colors you can use to decorate the buildings, different shapes and quality level for tiles. Marble tiles are famous for their strength and natural beauty, for example. Most of what the market offers are not of first quality and that because almost all of the customers don't have the knowledge. Home-owners use marble to increase the value of their home and reflect a refined and cultured taste. When someone purchases tiles, they should verify if they are appropriate for the intended use. Some tiles are not treated to withstand water, for example, because they are designed to be ornamental. Any company should offer enough details to help the customer purchase the perfect tiles.
