10 Common Mistakes On Web Design

In the process of web design, there are so many mistakes that you could end up making. Here are ten of the most common ones.
1 - Having too many plugins
The plugins that you use per page should be just one at the maximum. If there is a Flash function, then there is no need for you to use either Java or media player. But you can use two plugins provided that they are of the same kind.
2 - Using a Flash intro
There is no need to have a Flash intro on the first page of the website. These are extremely pass that people are starting to make fun of them.
3 - Filling a site with advertisements:
If you want to profit from your website, the temptation to place so many ads on it can be tough to handle. But the best way to look at this is from the viewpoint of your reader. They might be feeling as if having too many advertisements is intrusive to them. Is the site informative or is it just a place to read ads from?
4 - Chaotic layouts and site navigation:
There are a lot of websites that make the simplest things too complicated. If by some reason you find out that users think your website is too complicated, take some time to review your layout and site navigation. The most commonly used buttons by your visitors should be placed on the home page.
5 - External links without marks:
Links have two kinds: the internal and external. Your users would benefit from having external links that are properly marked. You can place them in a different color or use a special symbol to indicate the kind. External links would also work best if they are opened in another window so that the viewer does not have to leave your site to visit the link.
6 - Confusing links:
There are web pages which were made to just show links when the mouse is placed over them. This is good design-wise but this is hard for the user. Links should be underlined and placed in contrasting colors so that it is easier to see them.
7 - Fonts that are too artsy:
Use only the web fonts that are commonly used such as Tahoma, Arial, Verdana, and Georgia. Some people might not have the fonts that you use or it might be difficult for them to read it.
8 - Font size that are too big or too small:
Your text size must be the standard size. This can be an annoying problem for the readers.
9 - Email links that are not labelled:
An email link should always be clearly labelled with the term 'email'. It can be confusing especially if the user does not want to email the person but would just like to know more about them.
10 - Links that do not work:
Make sure that ally our links are working. It is annoying to find a website that you think you can use only to find out that its links are old and stale.
