Making Your Pool Safe For Your Children

My parent's summer residence in sun-soaked Florida is an eagerly anticipated family destination every year. This time, I was concerned for Sadie who was old enough at 3 to meander to the pool area on her own.
It was important that I procure a pool safety product because we exposed our daughter to swimming early on, being two people who frequent beaches. Add to this that my mother?s Victorian pool tiles looked inviting.
A friend and neighbor happened to introduce us to the Pool Protector pool alarm. It is equipped with an electronic sensor for detecting motion in the water. Anytime anyone dives in, it would sound a booming, pulsating alarm.
It alarms twice, to my amazement, from the gadget itself and from a remote receiver that can be positioned at a distance of up to 200 feet from the unit. It makes sense that youngsters are going to need pool safety if they are that far away from an adult.
Indeed, I heard a ringing one weekend we were about to head out to brunch. I could see Sadie in her bedroom with her mom but the sound was clearly coming from the alarm speaker in the room we parents occupied.
I ran downstairs to see what triggered the Pool Protector pool alarm. It turned out to be the son of my very neighbor who recommended this pool safety product.
The 6 year old?s parents were over there at the patio with my mother while he secretly left them for the pool. It was a good thing he had yet to drown when I retrieved him from the water. He could not exactly swim.
Swimming pool safety is easy to overlook even when parents care constantly about their children staying safe. How many may have already drowned for that reason? I would never wish it for anyone?s child.
