Damaged Data Recovery - There's An Answer To The Nightmare
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
We all go into panic mode when files are lost or deleted inadvertently. There was a time when we used to think that once files are lost there's nothing that can be done. Technology today has advanced so much that it is now possible to recover files that have been sent to the Recycle Bin and emptied. In the past this meant that we would have lost whatever data was in those files forever.
How Data is Lost
Files can be lost due to many reasons. It could be that the files were erased by mistake, even the files in the Recycle Bin could have been emptied, the hard drive might have crashed or a third party could have deleted them by mistake or on purpose. Now a days however loosing data does not have to be the end of the world. With there being many software programs that can help damaged data recovery, it is not all that difficult to retrieve lost data, especially if the hard drive is not too badly damaged. You must however, stop working on the computer the moment you realize that something is wrong with it or that you have deleted a file in error. The reason for this will be explained in the next paragraph.
Lost Files
Although a deleted file is lost to you, it is hidden in the recesses of the computer hard drive since no one wants it anymore. The space created by the deletion of the file is there however to be used whenever new data is fed to the computer or a new program is installed. As long as no new data is entered into the computer, the space left by the deleted file will remain as it is, to be recovered by the appropriate software when it starts to look for it. But the moment you enter new data into the computer, that space will be overwritten as a result of which the former files will be lost for ever.
How to Get the Lost Files Back
Damaged data recovery is pretty straightforward if the above has been adhered to. You should now surf the web and find some free software that has been created for the purpose of recovering damaged or deleted file. Download the software, but not to your computer, since you simply cannot use your own computer if you wish to recover your files. Use another computer to download the program and transfer it to a flash drive. Next, use your flash drive to install the file recovery software to your own computer. It will then be possible for the recovery program to discover your hidden files and restore them.
While there are tons of data recovery programs available on the internet, the ones that are more popular than the others are "NT Recovery" that can copy NTFS files to FAT files, "Fire Recovery" which is used to recover data as well as to check virus and "LDE Recovery" A very useful software program for those using Linux.
Getting Professional Help
Most recovery programs work fine if the hard drives are not badly damaged. If however, physical damage has been caused to the hard drive due to fire, floods etc. it might have to be rebuilt which would take some time. Don't at any cost try to do this by yourself if you are not an expert. If the hard drive is badly damaged and the lost data is extremely important, you should definitely get a professional for the recovery of your damaged files as otherwise you might cause even all other data to be deleted.
