From early childhood to the age of wisdom, man appears to be infatuated by stories. This has been the same for ages. There have been accounts that date back to old times. And since those old times, the imagination of mankind's mind has not rested. There are many individuals who like being story tellers rather than merely the audience. Yet, doing so requires more than just getting your ink refills and toner refill. Taking note of the search frequency around the Internet has shown that every three in five persons want to write a book. Yet, only some of those people in actuall make that dream true. The rest might get confused about how to take the initiative. However, there are many who start a project but fail to build up the story they imagine. People may argue about whether story writing is an art or a science yet, the answer differs from person to person. There are many writers who eventually build the plot and character along time, and there are a lot who take things in a systematic manner. The first| ones clearly are smart people with an extra active imagination, but most people fall in the second category. However, this doesn't make them less talented. There are many bestselling authors who think of the basic elements prior to the writing phase. So, there is no damage in taking this art as a form of science and letting your creativity flow in a systematical manner. Every other experts have different logic about the way a story is actually written, generally, the common structure of a story stands upon five basic elements. Realizing these five elements are a good push for aspiring writers. Let us have a look at those five major pillars and their brief description.
Main Character: The lead character is usually the hero/heroin of the story. He or she is the protagonist, mostly with a strong and positive character. Sometimes the main character may have have one or two minor weaknesses, which he/she later learns to overcome or use to his/her advantage. There can be multiple main character at times, but there is one who is always the most interesting one.
Unusual Situation: there always a sort of strange situation which makes a story different than a biography. There has to be any sort of desperate situations which calls the protagonist for a heroic act. Most of the times, the situation is more of a trouble or a problem which can range widely like being stranded on an Island or being falsely accused of a crime.
Goals: This is the objective or idea the plot and main characters move toward. This can be an escape from a distant lonely Island to finding the real criminal behind a felony. It can also be something else that requires heroic acts to be reached.
The Antagonist: The villain, the rival or the opponent is mostly someone or something who remains in the way of the hero/heroin and keeps him/her from achieving his/her goals. The antagonist doesn't always need to be a person. It can be a situation, a place or a disaster as well.
Climax: Anything won't make any connection unless there is a deifnate climax. Therefore, it is better to come up with a climax and understand what the story and characters are going towards. In the end, that is the focal point of the whole plot.
