Many years ago, companies started to recognise the benefit of using secret shoppers to check out how their employees were dealing with their own customers and even though the methodology has changed significantly over the years, particularly with the advent of the internet, organisations still want the same basic questions answered.
Most of the worlds largest organisations now use secret shopper or mystery shopper programs as a key part of their business strategy and this creates a great opportunity for ordenary people like you and me to earn a good part-time income with rates normally in the range of $10 to $40 per hour. So, what is a Secret Shopper?. Well, they are just normal people who act as if they were a regular customer at say, a hotel, a drugstore, a garage or even on an aeroplane. As a shopper, you are hired by a secret shopping company, who are working on behalf of the client company and your role is to provide an honest appraisal of the services provided by the organisation and their employees.
One of the important things you will need to be able to demonstrate is the ability to provide a great deal of detail about your shopping experience. You will need to remember things such as the color of the employee's hair, what sort of clothes they were wearing and much more. You will need to be able to communicate all that happened during that shop including all of the details that you have observed. This is done through writing up a report. Some reports are in a question and answer format that you will need to go through. Others are more paragraph form in which you will need to provide details. In all forms, you will need to have skills that will allow for detailed, concise, grammatically correct and spelling error free writing.
Becoming a secret shopper is often a simple matter of registering with a legitimate agency and waiting for assignments. Pay can range from say $8-$10 for a simple assignment, up to $20, $50, $100 or more for larger or more complex assignments. As a shopper, you work as an independent contractor and will take work from many different companies.
You must be capable of writing a detailed account of your experiences as a typical customer taking into consideration different aspects of how companies treat their customers, in terms of service and sales. Also, if you are willing to travel or make yourself available over a larger area you will certainly increase your opportunities to be selected for additional assignments.
The sort of tools you need to use can range from completing simple questionnaires to making complete audio and video recordings of your experience. Many companies are now completely administered through the Internet, allowing potential shoppers to easily register for participation, find jobs and, most importantly, receive payment.
The tremendous benefits to be realised from secret shopping are now being recognised by Companies all around the world. They recognise that for them it is a great way to improve their customer service by using the services of a secret shopping agency. Most major companies including Hotels, Retail Chains and airlines now provide people like us to make a great second, or even first income.
Secret shopping is not a 'Get Rich Quick' scheme. It is however a rewarding and enjoyable way to make money, particularly if you are like many people in this world who actually enjoy the shopping experience. It is of course even better if you are able to do it at someone elses expense.
