There's an old adage that when you travel you should take half as much as you need but double the amount of money you bring. After traveling around the world twice, I couldn't agree with that statement more. Its really important to pack little on your holiday. Packing light helps you avoid fees on airlines, saves space, and gives you less goods to carry, and allows you more freedom.
You need to focus on what is important. Too often we just pack everything as though lots of stuff might happen on the trip. What you should focus on when you are thinking what to bring on your trip is the essentials so you don't over pack and then bring too much stuff. No one wants to be stressed about all the stuff they packed but will never use. That's no way to spend a holiday.
The things you can't go on a trip without are the most important things to pack while you are on vacation. These items include medicine, id, passports, tickets, copies of everything, credit cards, and emergency contact information. People don't usually forget these and these are the most important thing to check you have before you leave. Remember to make copies so that if something goes wrong, you have backup.
Make sure you bring all the essentials. Bring socks, underwear, and all your toiletries. You don't need to bring shampoo and soap because you can get those at a hotel. The same goes for a towel. This will free up room in your bag, especially because towels are thick and take up a lot of space. If you need anything emergent, you can always purchase it at the hotel or your destination. They have things in case of emergencies.
Remember not to over pack your clothes. We take with us many clothes when we go away but often times we don't even use half as much as we take. Write down everything you need for your trip and then cut that list in half. You can wear clothes for more than one day. Remember you are on vacation not going to a fashion show.
No one wants to be burdened by taking lots of stuff with them when they go on holiday. Taking too much stuff can be a burden and cause lots of stress as you grumble about carrying so much stuff around. By bringing only the essentials you can pack light and avoid lugging around a big bag.
