LAX Hotels: A Brief Overview

Stepping off the plane, you hit the gates running. You're in LA now and you can feel the vibes. You wrangle your bags, clear security and elbow you way to the rental counter. Oops, no more car available. Ok, so you vow to catch a shuttle to the any of the nearest LAX hotels and be done with it. But, first you've got to narrow down your choices. LAX is an international destination -- and you're not the only one looking to book a room and a car and get on with your stay. So, here are a few options:
The first is the Crystal Hotel. It's incredibly close to LAX and offers a round-the-clock shuttle. It also offers decent room service, a continental breakfast, and rather spacious suites. While it's not the Four Seasons, it's a nice little place offering cozy accommodations and a fair price. Also, you can rent a car, compliments of the concierge. Not bad for roughly $60 a night, during off-season. Be sure to ask for some of the suite specials and upgrade your digs for the night.
The second is the Hotel Huntington Beach. Now, this is going to cost you a little more than $60 a night, but it's worth it. This 3-star hotel that provides a clean, decent family environment. Think of it as a budget hotel for families on the go. You and the kids can relax poolside, get a spa treatment, or have a meal at the hotel's restaurant, the Ebi-Star Restaurant. Breakfast is an unprecedented, all-American breakfast buffet, so be sure to carb-up for your busy say of sightseeing.
Clocking in at number three for no particular reason is the Westin Bonaventure. This is a landmark hotel, meaning you'll be spending more like $100 a night for the privilege of staying. And what a privilege it is. It's near such attractions as include Dodger Stadium, the LA Zoo, the Hollywood Bowl, and Universal Studios. That's access and luxury accommodations for about half what you'd pay at the Sheraton or Hyatt.
The Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach rounds out the list. This posh, white marbled beauty is the closest you'll ever get to being on set for Miami Vice. And, in fact, you may see Don Johnson skulking about the Belamar -- it's a haven for celebrities. At about the cost of the Huntington Beach, you could be a block from the beach and living like, well, a celebrity. Be sure you bring a nice paid of shades to increase the chances of being mistaken for one.
