It's common for people taking short trips to bring their pets. Long vacations and pets do not go along that easily.
Travelling with your dogs along is sometimes inconvenient. Find means to make travel more comfortable for you and your pet.
In general, it's more convenient travel by car when you have pets with you. Your dog has more room to get comfy inside a car as compared to a cage in cargo. Flying somewhere with a dog requires more effort and a lot of discomfort.
You can still bring along your dog if you travel by air, but your pet is not going to be that comfortable. Dog travel is not at its best when going by air. Pets are not permitted to travel by plane during cold weather.
Always keep your pet's trip as smooth as possible. Never forget the essentials: food and water.

Do you know where you and your pet will be staying? Contact hotels beforehand to know their rules for pets. A dog isn't allowed to stay in a room without its owner is a number of hotels. Having a dog sitter will come in handy in case you have other engagements. If you are staying at a hotel with your pet, chances are they have contacts for pet sitters.
You might have friends who live on the way to your destination who would have you for a night or two. Bring protection for your friend's stuff if your dog is playful. Good visitors always find homes to stay in.
Like anyone else, your dog is more comfortable in a new place if there are familiar things with them. Sometimes, dogs would also want their own possessions with them in addition to their owner to feel more secure. It'll make things easier for everyone.
Canine curiosity makes a journey seem fuller. Meeting new acquaintances during travel is especially easy with a dog in tow. Having your dog with you on a trip is a whole new experience.
