The best way to save money is book early and find a discount hotel website. These websites always guarantee that they have the lowest price, so if you find something cheaper, they will always match it. Just shop around a little, if you find something you can afford, book it then shop around more. If you find something cheaper let the customer service of the site know so they can match it.
One bit of warning I have is to always read reviews of properties. You don't want to save money and sleep with cock roaches. When you shop, find a good hotel, good price and book it. If the price seems too good to be true, it is.
