Holidaying At Ponta Do Ouro
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Anyone with some joie de vivre will love holidaying at Ponta do Ouro. It is a fun filled, relaxed and friendly environment with some of the Old Portuguese colonial charm.
Ponta do Ouro, although pretty remote from any city, or any sizeable town for that matter, offers the holidaymaker lots without any overload of sophistication. Its little Portuguese restaurants offer simple but well cooked fare with seafood and chicken as main dishes. Red meat is scarce and not easily obtained, as are dairy products. Typical restaurant fare will include chicken peri peri (chicken spiced with chilies and fire roasted) LM Prawns, lobster and a variety of fresh fish. Pao (Portuguese bread) is served with most meals. The local beer is good, although perhaps not of top international standing as is often claimed!
The pubs are friendly and offer a relaxing atmosphere to those on holiday at Ponta do Ouro. It is the water sports offered by the "Point of Gold" however, that is the main attraction to this quaint little town. Scuba diving is some of the best in the world, concentrated in a small area as there are some 14 off shore reefs from 10 meters to 45 meters deep of the coat of Ponta do Ouro. The quality of the scuba diving, apart from the reefs and the local fish species is made memorable by the absolute pristine quality of the reefs and the water. Because of a civil war, these waters have for some 24 years not been visited by outsiders resulting in an undisturbed environment for a long time. The people of Mozambique are doing their level best to keep it that way through strict policing of the environment.
One of the popular accommodation options is that of Ponto do Ouro self catering options. Self catering allows for a lot of freedom in your choice of holiday style as you are not bound to any dress code or meal times or any other restrictions. Families, therefore, often prefer the freedom of Ponto do Ouro self catering, notwithstanding the fact that you need to bring most food along with you.
