Paris, London or New York are not the only ones who have famous fashion designers. Australia has many talented designers as well. Some are internationally known, others are up and coming, but talented no the less. The department stores sell these talented designers clothing and some of the better known designers have their own stores. Some Australian designer you may have heard of are, Wayne Cooper, Collette Dinnigan, Alannah Hill and Sass and Bide.
Wayne Cooper was born in London but moved out to Australia in the 1980s .His first label BRAVE had designs that were spirited, cheeky and romantic, some daring some strictly tailored. In 1996, he launched his own label WAYNE COOPER which is a more exclusive collection complementing BRAVE which was renamed WAYNE. He is dedicated to great fabric, quality and has an incredible sense of what is coming around the corner for fashion. Each season Cooper reveals a multitude of personal influences and fascinations and pays tribute to a new muse, a woman of glamour who embodies the spirit of the moment, past muses include Faye Dunaway and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Collette Finnegan is internationally known and each garment is handmade in Sydney and shipped to clientele across the globe. She started her label in 1990 and has won many awards and shows her collections during Fashion weeks. Her collections are very feminine, sophisticated, glamorous, decadent, fun and luxurious. In 2006 she expended to a children's collection, as well.
Alannah Hill moved to Melbourne from Tasmania. Today she heads her own booming empire with boutiques in Australia and New Zealand and representation in Asia and UK. Her style can be described as intensely feminine and she is influenced by romance, love, sex, girls, crying, New York, Tokyo, Travel, Flower shops, Hotel rooms, fear, music and chocolate.
Sass and Bide was launched in 1999 with groundbreaking denim designs. Within two years the collection has expanded into seasonal wear. Today there are three parts to the label; Sass and Bide Denim, Sass and Bide and Sass and Bide for Lovable. The Sass and Bide style is inspired by the obscure and beautiful. It is a unique style for women with a quirky yet sexy style.
All these designers are located in Brisbane Central Business District, leaving no excuses for an out of date wardrobe.
