Chiropractors Need A Coach Too

All types of professionals uses coaches. You wouldn't expect a little league baseball team or a college basketball team to operate at their best without a coach teaching them, guiding them, and helping them reach their best. Chiropractors aren't any different, yet many doctors opt to go it alone.
Being a doctor alone in an office with only your staff as a sounding board can work, but definitely has its challenges. How can you ask a question about a staff problem when there's no one to ask? You can ask friends, you can participate in a forum, but you don't always know what type of advice you're really receiving.
Finding a mentor that is compatible with your style, but one that will still help push you out of your comfort zone is critically important. Many doctors will make their selection based on price and how close the seminars are. You may luck out and have a premiere coach in your backyard, but that shouldn't be your criteria.
You also can't select price as your primary criteria. It's not necessary to choose the highest priced coach, but certainly you should talk to the coach and hear about their philosophy and the types of results you can expect. Why go with someone for $300 per month but be hoping for a 20% increase in your office collections when you may be able to find just the right teacher for $800 per month to get a 100% improvement on collections?
Another aspect for consideration is the type of coaching you will receive. Are you being asked to buy into their model of success? In order for you to get results, will you be required to completely change your style of practice? The look of your office? Everything you say and everything you do?
Or, will you be able to get a custom solution? Now, realize you are looking for some type of change. If everything you are doing was working, why would you want the help? It's self-sabotage to seek out help and then not accept the advice and instruction that you are being provided. What's the point?
You want to do your investigation up front. Go with your gut feeling, but don't be afraid to step out a bit. Be ready to get out of your comfort zone, and be ready to implement. You will only be frustrated and waste your time and money if you go in half-hearted or not ready to make a change.
Since most coaches require some type of time commitment, you want to make sure you have a shared goal with your coach and a measurable way of determining if your time together has been productive.
