As defined in most dictionaries, marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband and wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. It is an agreement that was bind by love and promises that even death can't break.
It could have but that doesn't mean it should have. The thing about relationships in the limelight is that there are all kinds of Monday morning quarterbacks who can tell you all about the plays they would have made in this situation. Life is filled with could have, would have, and should have. The thing about celebrity relationships like that of Sandra Bullock and Jesse James is that the public sees too much on the one hand and not enough to really judge on the other hand.
There are no perfect relationships. We are all human beings and we are susceptible for mistakes. Patience, understanding, and better communication are needed to save the marriage that may lead to divorce. Sometimes work can be the cause. If both or the other one is too busy with the work, time is the first thing to be affected.
In times that communication is getting weaker and the presence of each other is no longer visible, it's now time to make a move and don't wait to end the marriage in a more painful way. Start the communication by talking to each other. Know the problems that barred the marriage. If work is the cause of it, then start to weigh things right and make the proper decision that could save the marriage. If work is your priority than family, well, you need to reverse it - although you're working to build a better home.
Cooperation of each other is also important to save the marriage. Marriage will never last if both parties are not cooperative. Learn to compromise. For some, it's a rude word, but compromise is important in every relationship. It means you love someone enough to forego your own particular needs from time to time in order to create a happy environment. This has to be done in both sides and will help to give you a good basis from which to move beyond in the marriage.
I guess if one good thing could be said to come out of this it is the fact that we are finally discovering the full scope of evidence that can be used in these cases. There are cell phones with GPS tracking, text message archives, call histories, video cameras everywhere, and countless other methods of getting caught in the act. You would think that would be a deterrent for men considering stepping out on the wives they claim to love.
Could this marriage have been saved? Probably not. The revelation was way too public and there were just too many mitigating factors. Could your marriage be saved if you cheated? It's possible - even likely - provided you didn't cheat on quite the scope of Jesse James.
