The business world is changing fast. Customers are in never-before-seen places, and the vehicles to reach them seem to be different every day. Marketers and advertisers are forced to discover new, innovative ways to effectively reach their demographic because the old ways of doing things are becoming outdated.

The old standby methods, i.e. direct mail, newspaper advertising, classifieds, television ads, package inserts, Yellow Pages, TV and radio, brochures and flyers are becoming less and less effective. If businesses are not discovering new methods, particularly Internet marketing, then they are sleeping through marketing's new dawn.

Now, I'm not saying to abandon the old methods of marketing. But the future's successful businesses will also know how to master the Internet. Good online marketing campaigns will make a business successful. But that's not saying anything you don't know.

Many businesses out there understand that they need to market online. But they don't know how what direction to take. Many don't even know they are doing it wrong.

First thing to remember before a starting an online marketing campaign, even with all the new stuff in the world, is to stay true to basic marketing principles. Those concepts have not changed. They never will change. People will always respond to compelling and creative ideas. A great product will always sell. Developing the right direction for building brand identity through positive public image will always be critical. The right message using the right delivery at the right timing will still get a business more exposure among the competitors. That foundation has to be there first. But that foundation isn't enough in today's world of rapidly changing technology.

In today's world of business, companies need to understand how to efficiently use the Internet for advertising and marketing. Some of the big new marketing techniques are SEO (Sear Engine Optimization), SEM (Search Engine Marketing), Social Network Marketing, Tactical E-mail, and Viral Video Campaigns.

If you have just heard about these online marketing solutions, then you better get familiar with them. These should now be fundamental marketing techniques for any business.

Search engines are like a global Wal-Mart or a global shopping mall directory. People from all over the world shop and do research online. They open up their browser, type in a few words to search for something and then click on links in the results page. If your business is not easily accessed by a search engine, then your business will find few online customers.

Social networks, like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, are so popular now, that they rival the populations of many of the Earth's countries. Facebook, for example, has more people than the entire population of Japan. Here is where a lot of people are. Here is where you customers are. An effective social networking campaign can be huge for your business.

To be successful in today's changing business climate, companies need to veer from the norms and accept new ways of doing things - whether that would be using broadcast, digital, print, or other emerging channels like social networking, Internet marketing and mobile marketing to propel a product or service.
