The Part About Weddings You Don't Hear About

Watching them on TV, we always read about the perfect wedding where nothing goes wrong, the bride looks perfect and everyone has a super time. Some reality shows have burst some bubble on the subject, the behind-the-scenes goings-on at most weddings are not discussed in the open too often. What they don't tell you about weddings is that even the best plans are ruined by unforeseen circumstances and human nature.
As the bridal couple, you need to understand that things will go wrong no matter how well you have planned your wedding. The good news is that most of your guests won't know that some things may have gone wrong because they didn't know what your plans were in the first place.
The florist will forget to put flowers in the chapel. The date of your best friend might get drunk and make a fool of himself. The dogs will take a chunk out of the wedding cake because your mom left the door open to the room she was storing it in. Your train will get a hole in it because you put the chair on it when you sat down for a moment before heading down the aisle. The caterer will have changed the menu at the last moment due to missing ingredients. Your miscreant nephew will try to get his face into every photo taken, and the barman will have forgotten to stock up on your boss' favorite tipple. Outdoor weddings have been ruined due to unpredictable wedding conditions, ministers have been hours late, wedding cakes have been knocked over even before the reception has started. One couple discovered they had been booked into the smallest room in the hotel instead of the honeymoon suite which was already occupied by another couple.
The bridal party, and in particular the bride and her mother, might let these type of mishaps ruin an otherwise perfect occasion. The best advice is to take a deep breath, smile and move on instead of stressing over details that are no longer under your control. One minor problem should not be allowed to ruin weeks or months of preparation, and affect the rest of your day or night.
There will be some things that can and will happen, even if no one openly talks about it. They also don't tell you that at each of these weddings, the couple did manage to get married despite all the problems. Most of the guests, in fact anyone not involved in the planning, will barely notice most of these problems, and no one will think any less of you for not planning for such circumstances. "What a lovely wedding" is what most of your guests would actually be thinking, after partaking of that wonderful meal and having a good time. You should also try to do exactly just that.
