They can get sweaty and tired holding onto the handlebars and so by wearing gloves it will give your hands a break and you will have a better grip too. If you are riding in cold weather the gloves will also keep your hands warm and stop them from getting a chill.
When going on a biking tour, bicycle shorts are essential. Normally you can just wear anything, but on an actual biking tour you should wear specialized clothing. This is because they are designed to be a lot more comfortable than ordinary shorts, which enables you to ride for longer distances.
