Music: A Big Part Of Our Lives Has Stood The Test Of Time
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
What does music mean to you? I bet you nearly always find a song on the radio to match your mood. It is too easy to take music for granted. It is always around us. Children start to dance at the drop of a good beat and many adults do the same. They simply can not help themselves. What would our world be like without music?
For me, Country Music has been my comfort music in times of need. Some people gravitate toward Rhythm and Blues or mainstream Pop music. Country Music just has that mood matching knack that other types of music just can not match. Breakups, friends, divorce, missing a loved one and doing life all show up in good country music.
Let's talk about Music Appreciation as a course to take in college. I reluctantly took the course years ago and to my surprise I actually had a better appreciation for music when it was all said and done. Most of the music we studied was classical. But, it was clear that music has in fact transcended the test of time. The classical hits of yesteryear still move the soul just like our top hits of today.
In addition to Country Music, I am a big fan of the Top 40, currently with Ryan Seacrest. On the Top 40, you will find upbeat pop music. VH1 and MTV normally play Top 40 hits. In the Atlanta area, there are several really great Top 40 driven radio stations. There are always several hits in the mix that I enjoy finding on the radio on my way to work.
I began to think about how American Idol has changed the face of music in America. For starters, what would our world be like now without Carrie Underwood or Daughtry. Secondly, what if these great artists had never been found or noticed. The second thought is how many more are out there who will never be noticed. Every season thousands come out and just few make it through. But, at least some are finding their way into the hearts of Americans everywhere.
Being a huge Country Music Fan, it may be hard to believe I like a little Rap Music ever now and again. It is because I have such an appreciation for what they do. If you don't believe me, just try to rap anything and see what it sounds like. To "rap music" is dang hard to say the least.. My favorite rapper is Eminem. He has a powerful message and he brings it in a way no other can replicate. He broke through all the barriers to get to where he is today so I respect him for that too.
I would encourage anyone to try different genres of music. If you're feeling down and normally turn to a favorite country song, why not try out the blues if you haven't listened in a while. It might be just what the doctor ordered.
So, go back to the beginning. What would our world be like without music? It is hard to imagine. Just think about going to church and not having the old time greats like Amazing Grace. Music moves our souls and lifts our spirits. I for one appreciate music and hope this article will get you to thinking about the impact music has had on your own life.
