Tony Danza Has a new Teaching Job, Cries "a Lot" in front of His Student

The Actor Tony Danza is the past star of such sitcoms as 'Taxi' and 'Who's the Boss?', but it's been a long time since he had a main hit. (Although he does obtain his movie career as the star of movies like 'Going Ape!' to fall back on.)

Nonetheless, Tony does have a brand new reality series coming up: 'Teach' -- that will premiere in October on the A&E Network. It follows 1 year inside the life of Mr. Tony, while he struggles to teach a class of 10th-grade English students. Tony spent a year in Northeast High School in Phil., and this wasn't merely a random choice for him.

Before he became an actor, Tony got a college degree in education. On 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' the acting professional talked about his new short-term profession. He mentioned what he discovered, exactly what his students realized -- and he also mentioned how he got just a little weepy.

Yep, Mr. Danza had been evidently a pretty emotionally charged teacher who cried a lot in front of his students. "One day, I cried over origami," he told Oprah Winfrey Okay, then. You cried over the ancient art of Japanese paper folding, Tony? Oprah tries to determine what it was about origami which made Tony cry, but the story is fairly complicated. As far as we can tell, he is merely a pretty emotional person who took his work somewhat seriously.

Tony discusses not wanting to fail his pupils, that is usually what made him want to tear up. "It simply gets to you ... You gaze over and see a kid bored, a kid with their head lowered, you go crazy, it breaks your heart. I cried a lot; they made me weep -- because I loved them, I guess."

Aw -- that's very sweet. We would like to mention just two small points here. One, despite the fact that Mr. Danza talks about teaching as his "dream job," he only did it for the year that he was compensated to be on A&E -- which ... well, you can draw your own personal conclusions here.

As well as our 2nd point: After originally being declined by the New York school system, Danza eventually persuaded the people in Pennsylvania to let him teach. Nevertheless, he never actually managed to get licensed as a real teacher. Therefore he had to have a second "co-teacher" in his classroom, who would observe and monitor him. In addition, because of his lack of certification, Tony only taught two classes a day. (Real high school teachers need to teach between four and seven classes per day.)

Therefore while I'm not denying Tony's enthusiasm and his passion for his students, we have to wonder if he was 100 % performing the activities of a real teacher -- or if it was just sort of faked for reality TV purposes. And also, would you want a non-certified actor instructing your kids for an entire year? Exactly what do you think? Did Tony do a good job? Or was it more of a reality-show theme
