The value of the 120hz feature has been widely debated in recent months. You will find many issues to look at prior to making your choice.
Inside the early days of the LCD vs Plasma tv wars, 1 of the biggest drawbacks to buying an LCD tv was that they had been prone to motion blur along with a somewhat choppy picture, specifically in times when there was lots of quick action for instance sports or in movie scenes like vehicle chases. Even though there has been a wonderful deal of improvement over the years inside the tvs capacity to deal with quick motion, LCD is still battling the stigma of not having as smooth of a picture as plasmas.
Enter the 120Hz tv. As a direct response, LCD manufacturers have incorporated 120Hz tvs into their newest tv models. These tvs have refresh rates which are twice as quick as the "standard" 60Hz models.
Those that are supporters of the 120Hz technology claim that the picture is noticeably smoother with crystal clear clarity, particularly throughout quick action scenes or sports. An additional benefit is the capability to produce an nearly 3D-like picture.
On the other hand, other people say that they can't notice a distinction when comparing side to side with the "standard" 60Hz models. They really feel that the 120Hz models are just advertising gimmicks to sell higher priced tv.
So who is proper? As usual there's a middle ground. Put just, a 120Hz tv will take a standard 60Hz signal and merely replicate it twice which by itself does small to improve the picture top quality. The real distinction is made when applying a video processing feature for motion enhancement. Every firm has there own name for this procedure. As an example, Samsung's feature is known as AMP for Auto Motion Plus. This feature takes the screen and interpolates the image to supply a smoother picture to decrease judder.
Does the motion enhancement offer an additional satisfactory picture? Once more this is open to debate. Motion enhancement at its ideal provides a noticeably smoother, stable picture, totally free of jutter, motion blur and ghosting. Some describe gaming in 120Hz as making a 30 frames per second game look like a 60 frames per second game, although other people are mesmerized by the capacity to make sports and movies look live and 3D-like.
At its worst motion enhancement, specifically throughout quick motion can introduce split second glitches within the picture known as artifacts which can obviously be distracting. Other people really feel that whilst documentary kind shows like Planet Earth can present stunning stable live action shots, that motion enhancement takes away from the cinematic really feel of movies by offering an practically too realistic, live tv or soap opera really feel as opposed to a cinematic experience.
It's crucial to point out that motion enhancement could be turned on or off, so in the event you prefer to watch a movie with out the motion enhancement you'll be able to merely turn it off.
For the time being the selection to go with a 120Hz LCD flat screen tv is purely 1 of personal option and spending budget. Maintain in mind that this is really a quite new technology and as with all new technologies you will find still some issues that have to be perfected. There's small debate that 120Hz is the wave of the future and that technology will only enhance over time. If price isn't of primary concern or in the event you can spare the additional dollars in an attempt to future proof your tv buy then it would appear to make ideal sense to go with the extra features and advantages that a 120Hz LCD flat screen tv can supply. If price is really a primary factor and you might be working on a limited spending budget then 1 of the standard models would be a fine selection until the 120Hz models are perfected.
