To put it shortly and simply, the difference between managed servers and unmanaged servers is the user who would eventually utilize such server hosts. With managed servers, all of the technical responsibilities and procedures that were mentioned on the previous paragraph that had to do with managing the server has been transferred to a hosting company of server management experts. The unmanaged servers however have the server owner left with all the maintenance and other technical aspects to make the server start running.

For those who have very little technical knowledge, or are rather not very well versed in technical things, the managed servers are a great choice. This is because there is constant maintenance and upgrading with such a server host.

One must find out what kind of user he or she is. Is the potential user someone who is very much capable to deal with all the technicalities of having to manage and maintain a server manually? In this case, an unmanaged server would be better for you. If one is not exactly very much experienced or well versed in all the possible technicalities, the managed servers are a better fit.

There are major disadvantages however. One would be the cost. If one perceives that he possesses a big volume of data to be transferred, one might face the risk of reaching the server limit. Every time this happens, a penalty is incurred. There are also a number of different fees that one might have to pay once in a while. We know that fees can be quite burdensome, especially when they come in bunches. This is however one of the small disadvantages of a managed server. There are still a lot of considerations. Nevertheless, the advantages seemingly outweigh the cons of this decision.
