Large Blocks of Text Be sure to chunk your text. Most people do not like to sit at the computer and read massive paragraphs. Organize your text into short paragraphs that are easy to digest quickly. Use headlines, bullet points, and short paragraphs to make your visitors' reading experience more enjoyable and stress-free. Music A big blast from the past is music that starts blaring while a site is loading. This was popular in the 1990s, but it is pass now. Lots of times, people are at work, watching television, or listening to music of their own choosing while surfing the net, so they don't want to have to listen to some "un-chosen" music while waiting for your page to open.
Small Colored Fonts Small fonts sometimes look nice on the screen, however the bad thing is that people can't always see it. If people can't see the site, they will log off and look for another site. Using colored letters may also make it difficult to see, specifically if the web designer puts a light font on a pale background or a dark font on a black background. Different Browser Windows A different browser window popping up for each page of the site can be very irritating to the user. When people are looking at a site, they don't want ten windows to open up. Rather, a different window should only be opened for links that connect the user to an outside site.
Doorway Pages Sometimes shady SEO tactics referred to as blackhat SEO are utilized in doorway pages, and sometimes these pages are used by designers who want an opportunity to showcase their Flash design expertise. Sad to say, doorway pages don't help the user at all; it just adds an extra step to the process of coming to the real site. Doorway pages should normally not be utilized. Secret PDF Files PDF files can add something good to a website, specifically for marketing reasons, however there should be a written warning to let the user know they are going to click a PDF file. PDF files can frequently halt computer screens, so the best thing to do is to let people know before they click.
Indecipherable CAPTCHA's These days CAPTCHA's are a necessary evil, but some of them are practically impossible to decipher. Do not utilize CAPTCHA's that will cause the average user to become frustrated.
