Digital cameras are expensive to repair for a few reasons. If you have ever broken your digital camera, you know that usually you do not bother having it repaired after visiting the local electronic store and finding out how expensive it is. The reason for them being so expensive to repair is because they are built so compactly and with several components inside. This makes it hard to take it apart, and put it back together as the manufacturer did. You will need special machines/equipment, and these can cost a fortune (so it is probably not worth it, unless the camera has some value under it to you).

The A460 looks like a bit of a throw back to my original digital camera. A Canon PowerShot S40 (circa 2001). The small LCD 2 inch LCD screen, and the sliding lens cap / power switch are almost identical designs. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I still use my S40. It's got some nice features that seem to be missing on many of todays digital cameras. Decent rechargeables, and a solid / sturdy feeling body. The one thing that has changed over the years, is image quality.
Ultra Compact are very small, easy to fit in your pocket, although with this comes very small buttons which people often find hard to use (many Sony cameras are ultra compact). Compact cameras are the most common cameras for people to buy, usually can fit in convenient places (for example, your pocket), and the buttons and such are usually not too small or too big. Most brands tend to have cameras that fall under this category since they tend to be so popular. Then there is creative compact, which contains much more options as well as features.
Try charging the battery and see if this solves your problem. Secondly, be sure that no one has altered the settings. This is a common mistake. You should be able to reset settings to the factory default. Also, when a memory card is full, the camera may not turn on (this only applies to some digital cameras).
If your camera is really broken, contact the manufacturer. Maybe your camera has some sort of warranty. If not, find out how much repair and shipping will cost.
Sometimes companies will repair it for free, but this is not extremely common. It is always good to get warranty when you purchase a camera, because you never know what is going to happen. All in all, if your camera is really broken and you cannot get it fixed for free, you are better off just buying a new camera. Be careful and take care of your digital cameras!
