It is maybe Demi Mooe's fault that pre-motherhood photography is very popular. When the movie star posed naked on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in 1991 when she was seven months along on her pregnancy, a lot of expectant mothers around the world all of a sudden wanted to have their own pre-motherhood portrait too. Of course, women have been posing for maternity photograph for years prior, only they were fully clothed, but it was just after Demi proudly flaunted her very pregnant naked shape that the trend shot up. Even two decades later, pregnant women continue to pose with their stuffed tummy for a pre-motherhood portrait, with or without clothes.
Maternity pictorial is very intimate not just to the mothers but also to the soon-to-be dads. The photography shoot intends to capture the momentous transformations on a woman's body and her emotions while looking forward to the birth of her child. These transitions and feelings are not reproducible, which is why it is best to seize them during pregnancy period. To further put emphasis on the pregnancy, it is also suggested that the mother is at least six months pregnant when her belly is already huge.
Even though maternity portrait traditionally means the mother's solo picture, the rising fad nowadays is to include the dad. The idea is to catch both parents' gentle emotions and exciting expectations in the photo. If you like to include your spouse in the picture, you can choose whether you wish to show a loving image or display both your fun side and talk about the treatment with the photographer.
There are couples who prefer to hold the photography shoot in the photographer's studio because it calls for fewer expense and the photographer can better control the lighting to give their portrait a soft light effect. If you wish, you can also hold the session where you had your pre-wedding shoot so the new picture can sort of help continue your story.
Another concern mothers have about maternity photography is what they must put on or if they should put on anything at all. Thanks to Demi, naked pregnancy photos look creative and bold, but it has also grown pretty common nowadays. Of course, if you have the guts and the will to do it, you are very welcome to do so. But seek a reputable photographer who has experience in tasteful nude shots and talk about it with him prior to the session.
If you like to hang on to your clothes, it is better to wear something snug and stretchy to highlight your belly. You can wear jeans or a flowy skirt, but for the blouse, the focus must stay on your pregnancy lump. You can also show off a bare belly in your picture to further accentuate the change in your body.
