Is Surveys For Money A Scam?

Go to your favorite search engine and type surveys for money. The results are very interesting. Some offer to show you how to make money from doing surveys for money, in return for your payment in advance of course. Others explain why this is a ripoff. So what is real here? I don't know for sure, but here is what I think.
There are sites that offer chances to get paid for taking surveys. Unfortunately, it's almost always a very small amount of money compared to the time it takes to do the survey. Someone who experimented with this kept careful track of her time spent and money earned. The bottom line was that she was making about 37 cents per hour.
There are plenty of sites that you can subscribe to. After you pay them, they will direct you to plenty of surveys that pay. The sites claim that it can be a lucrative pastime. I find this very doubtful.
Taking surveys can be fun. Sometimes it feels worthwhile. You may get to express your opinion. You may feel like you are contributing to a worthwhile effort. I do a few free surveys a month. Some of them enter me into contests. I've never won anything. I'm generally glad to have the opportunity to provide information, even if I don't get paid.
On the other hand, I do have negative feelings about the sites where you pay for access to surveys. I'm not prepared to say that they are all frauds, but I suspect that most of them are. One can certainly earn money working online. Unfortunately, those who don't have special skills to sell probably won't get paid very much. Getting low pay is better than spending money on a fraud, in my opinion.
So where does that leave us? In my opinion, you should take a survey if you feel like it. If you get paid a little, all the better. Avoid the subscription sites; they are probably too good to be true.
