Putting A Corner Bathroom Sink Into Your Second Or Even Third Bathroom May Do The Trick

If you have looked around your home for somewhere to put an extra half bath or powder room and not found the space for it, read on. You can do more with less room than you ever thought. A corner bathroom sink of tiny size may be all that is needed to get you the extra space you need.
One couple took out an old built in forced air heater. In the space that was left, they put a toilet and small sink. Now no matter how old the heating unit was the space was small. Still they now have a powder room where once there was none.
If that does not convince you then how about the guy who put a half bath in his airplane hangar. Now this hangar is T-shaped so it is really tight. He put the shower, sink and toilet along side the fuselage of his Cessna. He did not even have the luxury of a square space. Now that has to give you some encouragement.
So perhaps, thinking you do not have enough room is not the right approach. Maybe thinking out of the box and into the wall or linen closet is a reasonable idea. There are other considerations however.
Access to the area below the floor is important. Water has to flow downhill so a half bath or powder room in the basement will cost a lot more if it is below ground level. If you are planning on one on the first floor and there is a basement beneath, then the situation is just the opposite.
If you or your contractor can access the floor below the hoped for bathroom, then everything is just much easier. No crawling or digging required. And, if the sewer pipes happen to be close too, then you have won the lottery twice.
To help you with a small space, there are lots of specialized fixtures. These make getting the basics into a small space a great deal easier. Pedestal sinks and round bowl toilets take much less space. And there are even smaller editions if you need them.
While seeing these fixtures in person can help you find just the right size, the variety can be limited. But there is no limit to the web sites that feature specialty fixtures and appliances. As you can imagine, there is likely a solution for every problem. And do not forget that RVs and boats frequently need smaller scale fittings.
If you think that the budget for a small bath is safe from mission creep, think again. It seems that no matter how small the job, the cost will be more than you think. There is probably some law of physics that demands that any project will cost more than estimated. Check with Issac Newton on that one.
So why not take another look around the house. It is possible that the garage or even the mudroom can be the answer to your spare bath problems. Maybe just a corner bathroom sink can make the space you have in mind work for you.
