Maybe A Corner Bathroom Sink Is The Answer To Your Second Bath Or Powder Room Problems
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
If you have looked around your home for somewhere to put an extra half bath or powder room and not found the space for it, read on. You can do more with less room than you ever thought. A corner bathroom sink of tiny size may be all that is needed to get you the extra space you need.
Here is one example that will convince you that almost no place is too small. This couple took the space that once held an old forced-air heating unit and then in that small space put a quarter bath. If they can do that, there is hope for anyone. Small spaces can have big potential.
Another unexpected half bath ended up in an airplane hangar. Now it is true that not everyone has such a building. But imagine one with a half bath. This particular hangar is T shaped and so has even less room than a square building or room. The half bath sits along the fuselage of the plane.
So, maybe you do have enough space. That linen closet is beginning to look like a good candidate. The coat closet is starting to have real potential. The garage is beginning to looking like it would make a great master suite. But there are other considerations.
Access to the area below the floor is important. Water has to flow downhill so a half bath or powder room in the basement will cost a lot more if it is below ground level. If you are planning on one on the first floor and there is a basement beneath, then the situation is just the opposite.
If you or your contractor can access the floor below the hoped for bathroom, then everything is just much easier. No crawling or digging required. And, if the sewer pipes happen to be close too, then you have won the lottery twice.
To help you with a small space, there are lots of specialized fixtures. These make getting the basics into a small space a great deal easier. Pedestal sinks and round bowl toilets take much less space. And there are even smaller editions if you need them.
While seeing these fixtures in person can help you find just the right size, the variety can be limited. But there is no limit to the web sites that feature specialty fixtures and appliances. As you can imagine, there is likely a solution for every problem. And do not forget that RVs and boats frequently need smaller scale fittings.
Budgets can be an issue for any remodel or renovation project. Small bathrooms are no exception. Whatever you plan to spend, you can plan on spending more. Coming in under budget is so rare that there is probably some sort of award that has never been given out. If your project comes in under budget you should probably call the Guinness Book of World Records.
So there is no reason to think that you might not be able to squeeze that extra washroom, half bath or even quarter bath into your home. If having a corner bathroom sink and toilet in the hall closet save you a long walk upstairs, then it might be worth another look. Now why not go walk through the house one more time.
