Cedar Colored Railings for Your Home
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Having a cedar colored railing in your home is one of the most elegant alternatives you can get if you want a natural wood for your rail. Whether you'll go for the red or the white cedar, it's a guaranteed best result. On top of that, it is less expensive than any other wood materials.
Maintenance is the worst thing about using wood for railings. But if you are into using wood after all, cedar is the best type for you. This is probably the least maintained wood of all. A simple application of lacquer is all you need every after three years and it's good for the next years. On top of that, it only takes 15 to 20 minutes per 1000 square feet of application so it's truly economical and practical for use. With this minimal maintenance, you can rest assured that your cedar railings will always look good all through out the years.
Also, it is natural for a wood material to be taken off watery places. This goes to say that if you will use it outdoors, you have to waterproof it. Best is to have it indoors and keep it from wet areas. If you will prefer to use it also as a flower box, make sure you have an interior flower bed for it. This way, you can take the flower out and water it separately from the wood planter.
The use of cedar is also least expensive. This is because cedar is of abundant supply in high, cold places like the Himalayan range and the Mediterranean region. Cedar trees are usually found anywhere in the world where fir trees are also found. They can grow up to 50 meters with up to 3 feet long of evergreen leaves. Their trunk may also grow from 1 to 2 feet in diameter but some may grow bigger than that.
The cedar tree is also of many types. Among are the Deodar, Lebanese, Turkish, Cyprus, and Atlas. Any of these varieties can be used for your deck railing building anytime of the year.
