2. Select your bees - You first need a queen and some worker bees. Consider purchasing a packaged set of bees and a mated queen bee. This should get you started.
3. Properly Plan - This is the most important. Determine what you will need to do for every season (fall, winter, spring). Then, properly plan. The warm weather months are the most active time for a beekeeper. So, if spring has not started yet, start planning now. Prepare your equipment so that when spring comes around you are ready.
4. Read all the information that you can get - Select guides on beekeeping and read a lot on raising bees so once you start you are ready. Mix with other people and people who are also beekeepers or are interested in this hobby.
