Find Out Why So Many People Use the GE Smartwater MWF Water Filtration System
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
If you are considering buying a refrigerator with a chilled water supply, before making your final choice, take a look at the type of filtration system it has. Many brands including Hotpoint, GE and Kenmore use the GE Smartwater MWF filtration system, which is probably the most popular and effective ways of removing the majority of chemicals from your fresh, chilled drinking water. Perhaps you already have a brand picked out that does not use the GE Smartwater MWF system. If that is the case, you may very well be able to get an adapter that would allow you to use thief brand filter in your fridge.
Seeing as all water is pumped through pipes to get to you, it is no wonder that it carries several harmful things. The GE filters will remove 96% of asbestos, lead, chlorine and mercury as well as remove the rust and sediment that often times gets carried through these pipes. Fluoride, a chemical that is actually added to our water supply for our benefit, is kept intact in our drinking water with these filters. We need fluoride for our dental health, so this is a very good thing!
The filter provides for a fast water flow rate. OK, I know that probably wasn't something you were too concerned with, but it's a nice benefit knowing that GE considers your time valuable and doesn't want you to wait long to get that cool glass of water or that pan filled with water! The actual flow rate for these filters is about a half a gallon of water for every minute. Considering the size of these filters, I think they pack a punch!
The GE Smartwater MWF is a long-lasting filter, but it will of course need to be changed regularly to maintain the quality of the water. You can expect you will need to change it 2 x a year or after you have run about 300 gallons of water through it. If you're lucky, you may have a fridge that "tells you" when it's time to change it. Don't be tempted to use old filters for too long as the water can become contaminated by the chemicals which have been removed. When it's time to replace them, you just need to unscrew the old one out and replace the new one. No tools are required here.
There are plenty of places available to sell you a replacement filter, but I recommend you do a bit of searching online. You can expect that you will find other brands claiming to be "comparable" to the GE brand for a lower price. If you are considering going that route, just do your research to make sure that this substitute brand will provide you with the same safety standards and quality that the GE brand most definitely will.
Might I suggest that you think about buying the filters online, instead of driving about town looking for the better deal. If you are one who likes to find a good price, the Internet provides a great platform to do so very efficiently. Another suggestion is that you possibly consider buying "bulk." If you buy a multi-pack, typically the price per each goes down. I've managed to save some money this way, but it's really your call on what works best for you. I have put some offers on my Site to make it easy for you to start shopping on the Internet. It's at least a place for you to start!
