Acne treatment is not only limited to treating pimples and blemishes. It also involves removing impurities such as blackheads and whiteheads.
Blackheads are known as open comedones. It is a type of acne vulgaris and is triggered primarily by excess oil.
When excess oils accumulate on the pores and become toxic, it subsequently is exposed to oxidization and becomes a blackhead.
Blackheads can become difficult to remove and ugly if they are left too long and untreated. People with oily skin are most susceptible to having blackheads.
Another similar type of acne vulgaris is whiteheads. However, they are not as obvious as blackheads.
Whiteheads are primarily caused by pores clogged with excess oils and dead skin cells.
Many people have the habit of squeezing the blackheads and whiteheads on their skin. This type of treatment can be very dangerous as it may cause inflammation and scarring.
Removing blackheads and whiteheads take time. There are products on the market that are effective in blackheads removal and at the same time, prevent any scarring.
Salicylic acid - effective in eliminating bacteria and excess oils on the skin. It is used in many skin care products and is proven to be a good treatment for blackheads.
AHA - this is very helpful for removing whiteheads and dead skin cells.
Benzoyl Peroxide - not as effective as the above for removing blackheads but it is used commonly for treating pimples.
Accutane - not recommended unless all else fail. Accutane has a number of side effects. If possible, try other methods first.
Home cures - you can try using a face steamer and add some essential oils like lavender, neroli or tea tree. This can help in removing whiteheads on the pores.
Lemon juice can be used as a toner to help reduce excess oil on the skin.
You can also use pore strips to remove loose blackheads and whiteheads. If you combine it with the usage of salicylic acid, you should be able to remove these impurities quite successfully.
Remember to use the pore strip sparingly though. You may want to use salicylic acid for a while to get the pores "ready" before using the strips to remove the dirt.
