Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should stay away from them. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it's good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you raise your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain's serotonin levels. Serotonin is the "feel good" natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you want to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain's grey matter. It's the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It's not hard to feel depressed when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood as it's easy for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
Now you can see that junk food isn't necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try these hints instead!
