Tips To Find Fat Burning Foods On Holiday
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
When ever I go away on holiday I always find it challenging to stick to my healthy diet. Firstly, it can be very difficult to find fat burning foods when you're in a strange town or a foreign country. And then there is always the risk that you'll go off the rails and revert to eating junk food.
Let's take a look at a few tips that will help you stay on track whenever you go away.
Go Grilled
Just because you're on vacation it doesn't mean that you should revert to eating junk food. Just remember how much better you feel and look when you choose well prepared, delicious, healthy and satisfying foods.
Remember to stay clear of fried foods, and go for grilled meats and fish instead. The chances are your taste buds will be as happy as your waste line.
If you're visiting a coastal town or city the chances are that there will be an endless supply of fresh seafood. If you're heading inland then it is more likely that red meat and poultry will dominate the menu.
Just remember to use your experience when choosing your meals. Would you prepare a meal this way? If not then it's probably a good idea to make another choice.
Go Local
In my experience, the smaller local restaurants really pull out the stops to showcase their local produce. Most of them will deal with local producers and suppliers, meaning the majority of their food will be natural, fresh and flavorsome!
Local restaurants, and their chefs, specialize in getting the most flavor out of their food! And this is good for you because it typically means that healthier cooking options are used, rather than convenience, processed foods and cooking techniques.
On the other hand, large chains and fast food establishments are likely to source lower quality, mass-produced foods and prepare them in a manner that can be detrimental to your health. (Through the use of hydrogenated cooking oils and fats.)
Of course you always have the option of asking for unhealthy ingredients to be left out of your food. That grilled steak sandwich might look good, but the melted cheese and onion rings could be left out!
Be Prepared
If you're going out on a day trip, sightseeing or planning on spending your day at the beach then plan how you'll satisfy your hunger.
But when you're in unfamiliar surroundings it can be hard to find a place to eat. And if you do, you're only choice might be an ice cream stall and a greasy diner!
And this is where fat burning snacks come in handy!
When ever I go away I will always take a large bag of mixed nuts with me. (Make sure you check that you will be allowed to cross the border with any food you travel with).
Whether it is sightseeing or the beach, these little guys are easy to pack and store. And they're light too! Always ready for a quick hunger fighting snack.
Another great tip is to carry some fresh fruit. Fruit with a skin is just as convenient to carry as a bag of nuts. And if you are staying in a hotel that provides a decent breakfast spread then there will likely be enough fresh fruit to last you the day. Just take some with you!
Bananas, apples, oranges, kiwi (if you have a knife and spoon) are good options.
Take The Time To Enjoy Yourself
Vacations are to be enjoyed, and if that means the odd occasional treat then so be it!
If desserts are your vice then you should be allowed to indulge a little while you're away. I've got a very sweet tooth, so if I see something I like then I'll go for it. And why shouldn't you?
But that doesn't mean that you can eat a dessert with every meal. Just remember that processed sugars put your body in fat storage mode, not to mention they leave you feeling lethargic, tired and bloated!
I guess my final tip would be to trust yourself and your food choices. By sticking to your nutritional program you won't be craving junk foods.
Finally, don't get stressed out by factors you can't control. If you're eating out then the quality and preparation of your food is out of your hands. There will never be a perfect "holiday diet". But by following the tips and tricks above you can still go home in great shape.
