The Scottish cuisine has roots in its rich history, its geography, and its immigrant population. The abundance of cattle, gives the dairy and meat most dominance in their cooking. Other than this fish, fruit and vegetables make most of the nutritional supplements in of their diet too.
When we talk of starter's soup is the first thing that comes to mind. Here Cullen Skink, Baud bree, Cock-a-leekie soup, and Game soup are famous. Then there are other soups as well like Hotch potch, Partan beer, and Scotch broth.
Since Scotland is surrounded by sea, fish is the most integral part of diet. Seafood includes Kippers, Kedgeree, Roll mops, Smoked salmon, and Tatties and Herring. Also included in this diet are dishes like Arbroath smokies, Cabbie claw, and Crappit heid.
High cholesterol meat dishes are very popular. Some of these are Boiled Gigot of Mutton or Lamb, Forfar Bridie, Collops, Haggis, Mince and tatties, Mutton ham, Pottit heid, Potted hough, Roast Aberdeen Angus beef, Skirlie, Square sausage, and the Stovies. Chicken tikka masala though an Indian-Pakistani delicacy has made its way here.
The confectionary items include different types of cakes and loaves. Some of these are Jet hart Snails, Moffat-toffee and Oatcakes. The famous Black bun is made with raisins, currants, almonds and brown sugar.
The pudding delicacies include the Carrageen Moss, Clootie Dumpling, and Cranachan. Then there are the Hatted Kit, Marmalade pudding, Stapag, and Tipsy Laird. So they are many different kinds of puddings, creams, and pies make up the sweet tooth of the Scottish nation.
The Scottish have proved themselves as the kings of dairy as they have numerous products that are milk based.
Carola, Criffel, Ayrshire Dunlop, Gigha, Isle of Mull Cheddar, Lanark Blue are few of the many of the diary products that are found in Scotland. Crowdie is a white cheese that is made from the whey of soured milk salt and a pepper added to it.
Scotch Whisky famous worldwide. It is distilled from barley liquor and then flavored with peat tainted water. There are two kinds of whisky the Malt Whisky and the Blended Whisky.
