Whatever draws you to the great state of Texas, one thing is for certain, the food will be what keeps you there. The outstanding perfection the South has attained in creating it's unique cuisine, is saturated in the Lone Star State. You will find delicacies here that are devoid any other place on the planet.
How do you spell fun in the South -- BBQ. Anywhere you go, from the big city to the smallest country community, you will find a barbecue establishment of some kind. Undoubtedly also, each will be labeled as the self proclaimed "Best Barbecue in Texas!" The atmosphere may slightly vary, but you can expect brushed steel and wood decor, a hickory smoked aroma, and lively country music.
The sole purpose of the visit, however, being the food, is quite varying from pork, beef, and chicken drenched in the most savory of barbecue flavors. If you prefer a kick of spicy, sweetness of honey glaze, or classic hickory savor, all meats and sauces are accounted for in any choice of location for your barbecue experience. I was surprised to find when I moved to Texas, that even the most elegant of occasions and events are centered around a banquet of barbecue.
Barbecue could have little success if it weren't for one of Texas' greatest assets in beef. Miles and acres of unending livestock herds are a common scene driving across the state. This land of roaming cattle produces the most delicious meat in the country.
Even if you don't prefer barbecued animals, nothing beats the tenderness of a melting juicy steak in your mouth. Texas steakhouses also sufficiently dot the state. May I suggest a medium grilled sirloin wherever you choose to go, for the perfect tenderness and sufficient doneness that constitutes a perfect dinner delight.
Also with the state being so conveniently located near the border, a fascinating genre of food exists here that doesn't compare anywhere else, and that's TexMex. Especially as you travel further south in the state, near San Antonio for example, the authentic quality of the hispanic culture romanticizes the food industry. We are lulled away by the warm fresh tortillas, salsa from the freshest produce, and unique explosive flavors that could only come from the union of Mexican made food and Texas grown culture.
Texas also has great pride in the vast acreage of land that serves as a breeding ground of succulent fruits, vegetables, and a variety of produce. My personal favorite is undoubtedly the peach. The South can boast for creating the best peach cobbler, for good reason.
Texas' humid climate serves as the perfect breeding ground for peaches to thrive. In order to satisfy our yearly craving for peaches, we've planted our very own tree in our backyard. The whole neighborhood in fact salivates this time of year just at the sight of our family bringing over paper bags full of peaches.
Texas land and climate cannot always be described as unbearable. They bring forth the produce of the most enjoyable eating. The livestock, fruits, and vegetables, have a happy home grown here in Texas. All Texans should be proud to share with any traveller our unique culinary creations with substantial delight.
