To start the process, the first thing that you need to do is to fill out an application at your local fire department. Make sure to fill it out accurately. You may need to call around to find the right place to get this application as well.
There is also a couple of exams that you will need to take - both written and physical as well as a psychological evaluation. The written exam can take up to four hours and can be prepared for by reading firefighter exam books as well as firefighting websites.
The physical test will simulate some situations that would take place during a real fire or emergency. You will be required to climb ladders, save practice people and the like while wearing all the proper firefighting equipment.
After the physical test you are given a psychological evaluation to make sure that you have the skills to handle the stress that you will endure during a stressful fire situation. A fire man will see and do a lot of stressful things during his or her career so you need to make sure that you can handle these things.
If you are thinking about becoming a fireman, these are just a few things to keep in mind during the whole process. Good luck with your new fire man career.
