How A Woman Went Against The Odds And Gained Her Doctor's Degree

A woman who was already forty years old gathered her guts and came to the local university?s college of literature, science and the arts in her plain farm clothes and asked to be admitted as a student. A convent educated farm wife, fresh off a chicken ranch, this woman said she wanted to be a doctor. Since the admissions head was so skeptical, she got sent to the university psychologist first before getting her approval.
Ten years later in the time of spring, this old lady has achieved something that is unlikely to be equaled, states the university spokesman. They point out that during the 10 years it took for this woman to meet premedical and medical school requirements for a doctorate, she and her husband raised 10 children.
This lady still has a year of internship in a local hospital and then she will have to go for a three year residency at an eastern hospital for internal medicine. A medical career, a full blown one is what she envisions for herself. The average life span of a doctor?s career would be 25 years and I aim to go long past that.
They remembered that it was in the year 1964 when her husband, a 145 acre chicken farm operator for 15 years decided to transform his profession and with this, he suggested to his wife that she help out in bringing in food on the table. He got a job as a specialist in electronics instrumentation at the local laboratory of research. His wife chose to become a student and at the same time also worked in the university?s blood processing laboratory on the side.
She shares that while many people ask her if her situation was difficult, she can honestly say that she has never found problems with being a mother in a large family alongside studying. We have become more mindful with our money and we just get by with a little. All of them did their part even if I didn't them ask them to. Bill was always full of zip and their kids were very helpful. I only do the dishes since cooking is not my interest. I would cook and handle the dishes and all these would work out.
This hard driven lady was able to attain a 3 point 2 average in her premed program and while she waited to be accepted in a medical school, she enrolled herself in graduate biology class on a part time basis. She believes that it is not only her that was enriched by medical school but their entire family as well. For instance, their children benefit from the new people they meet right in their own home a group of teachers and other medical students. They began to develop respect for people no matter what their walk of life is because they got exposed to different people.
A daughter of mine recalls how she feels having a mother that was almost never there. She answered by telling how they saw their mom not just as a parent but also as a person. The only children that remain at home are only two of them. These two kids are none other than their 14 year old boy currently enrolled in the local junior high school and the other is his brother who has just graduated high school at 17. Of the others, it is their eldest boy who is already 29, who gets to visit them often as he lives in the area and manages a motorcycle sales enterprise. On her medical education and achievements, she quickly discloses that the secret is in holding on to who you are as a woman while fulfilling you duties as a doctor. She calls it an avenue of personal enrichment and a duty she had to accomplish and thanks to these, she is a triumphant lady.
